2019 Abe Yanofsky Memorial final results

Theo Wolchock won the 2019 Abe Yanofsky Memorial Open with 4.5 points, ceding only a draw to fellow junior Derek Ma in Round 2. Ma finished 2nd with 4 points;, his other draw was with current Manitoba Champion Isaac Wiebe in Round 4. Yemi Abioye finished 3rd with 3.5, upsetting Wiebe in the final round.

James Currie won top U2000 with 3 points, followed by Jordan Constantino (Kwiatek) and Gilbert Perez who shared 2nd U2000 with 2.5 points.



Ethan Eckert dominated the U1800 section, winning with a perfect score. Al MacPherson finished 2nd with 4 points. Aibike Myrzaibraimova won top U1600 with 3.5 points, followed by 2nd U1600 shared by Carter Marshall, Ken Marshall, Zachary Piche, and Ievgeniia-Diana Furda, all with 3 points.

Top U1400 was shared by newcomers Noah Monk and Marcel Lemay, both with 3 points.

2019 Abe Yanofsky Memorial Tournament


2019 (17th Annual) Abe Yanofsky Memorial Tournament - 

$ 2,500 Guaranteed Prize Fund !

(to be increased if there are greater than 50 entries)

Round 1 - Friday,August 30   7 pm
Round 2 - Saturday, Aug 31  10 am
Round 3 - Saturday, Aug 31  2:30 pm
Round 4 - Sunday, Sep 1  10 am
Round 5 - Sunday, Sep 1  2:30 pm

University of Winnipeg  - Room 3L08 (Lockhart Hall)

Time Control: Round 1 G/ 105 + 5 second increment ; Rounds 2-5 Game/90 + 30 second increment

Rules to be noted:
Anti-draw rules will be in effect (no agreed draws before move 31)
 FIDE Zero tolerance forfeit rule NOT in effect -old rule in effect; players will not be forfeited for non-attendance until one hour after scheduled start of round.

Half-point byes OK, any of first four rounds, limit 2, must commit before rd 2.


Entry fees:


$50 regular, $40 junior if registered on or before Aug 6.  After August 6 - $60.   $50 for junior (under 20 years of age)
CFC Membership also required. All players must be CFC members (can be obtained during registration on-site)
CFC  Rates for Manitoba residents are as follows:
Adult - $ 20 for a one-tournament adult membership or $ 25 for 12 months- new adult members pay   $ 25 for a twelve-month CFC membership, or $ 16 for a one-tournament membership
Junior (under 20)  members pay $ 10 for a one-tournament membership, $ 17 for a twelve-month CFC membership, new junior members pay   $ 17 for a twelve month CFC membership, or $ 8 for a one-tournament membership]

 Highest of CFC rating (or USCF for US players) or established FIDE rating used for section entry.
